Use only mineral based oils?

Postby r50pathcr » Tue Apr 17, 2018 10:58 am

Hello everybody,

New to the Pathfinder world.. recently bought a 2004... I was reading the user manual and found this:

"Nissan does not recommend synthetic based oils, but recommends mineral based oils".

Anybody knows the reasoning behind this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

That information is 14 years old and really isn't relevant, anymore. Back then, synthetic oils were just beginning to become popular (even though Amsoil and a couple of others had been selling them for years prior) and I assume Nissan didn't have any testing with them or just wanted to have a disclaimer in case an engine was damaged using one of these synthetic-based oils. Now, Nissan actually recommends synthetics on some of their late-model engines. So, if you want to use a synthetic oil, go ahead and don't worry.
