I paid about $100 five years ago, and all I asked for was an idle air relearn. Like I said, won't be cleaning in there again :)

Update! And in conclusion.

Timing chain guides are replaced and new chains.
Everything is good to go
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever touch your TB or even look at it wrong.
Dealership did the relearn through CONSULT and it cost me 130$.
Idle is normal and everything is in tip top shape. For now.

Didn't need the special tools at all.
Don't be discouraged from doing this job. Could have easily done it in one day.

Also the marks for tdc are all wrong. The two white lines line up at about the 11 o clock postition when it's at the top of the stroke. Just fyi

My trusty mechanic did me a 'favor' and cleaned my TB last time I had my truck in for an unrelated repair. Got the CEL on the way home.

Managed to get the pedal dance to work, and its been fine ever since, but I totally realize I dodged a bullet there.

Glad yours worked out, and thanks for the info on the Timing chain guide replacement. I watched the video for that repair and almost puked, I don't think I will ever attempt that one, but we shall see. 315k km (195k mi) and doesn't seem to have the timing chain noise, so maybe I got lucky!

Hate to revive this but how is it possible for the noise to come back??? Changed the chains and used oem tensioner shoes.
