Occasionally mine will not crank in Park, but if I put it in Neutral it always does. I know it's likely a sensor, but was looking for more specific info. From what I've read, a bad switch would throw P1706 code, but would that trigger the CEL? Will it only throw the code while failing to crank? Bear in mind, I haven't tested to see if it cranks in other gears.

Which brand Neutral Safety Switch is preferred?

I had a similar issue on different car. Wd40 the heck out of the transmission linkage in the front (the part that you see move to put car in gear) sorry not sure about name. But that fixed the problem forever for me.
Not sure how safe but it worked for me.
