Trouble starting

Postby Notw16 » Sun Jul 15, 2018 9:30 am

I have a 2002 pathfinder SE. Lately it has had trouble starting. I’ve had the battery and alternator checked and they are good. Usually it starts fine if I have driven it within 10hrs. A little over that and it will start but will have a battery symbol display on the dash which stays on until I drive for about 15 minutes. Once I go about 18hrs + without starting it the car has trouble starting at all. Last time I went over 20hrs I just tried starting it a few times, pumped the gas peddle a few times, held the gas peddle down and eventually got it to start.
It has about 100k miles on it.
It cranks and wants to start but doesn’t seem to get there. Could it be both a fuel and electrical problem?
Any help would be great. Thank you.

The charging system warning light being "on" would suggest that you should start by checking the battery, cables and charging system. Static voltage at the battery should be about 12.2 volts. Battery cable connections should be clean and tight. Charging system voltage should be 13.2-15.5 volts at idle and at 3000 RPM, both with loads "on" and loads "off."

Loose battery cables or a bad ground.
