A little trick to "stretch" your radiator

Postby palmerwmd » Sun Sep 30, 2018 7:44 am

Many on here may already know this as our admittedly small membership base is pretty knowledgeable..

I learned this little trick in the 350 race community.. When folks often retained the stock radiator despite adding forced induction.
This is done on a healthy radiator not one that is overly old and/or scaled up.

1) Drain about 3 quarts out
2) Add a bottle of Redline Water Wetter. Its not snakeoil.. It does change surface tension and reduces formation of bubbles.. This reduces cavitation at the water pump and improves heat transfer inside the rad.
3)Refill with distilled water. Making the mix thinner giving the radiator a bit more heat capacity making it effectively a bit bigger.

This has worked well for folks using stock radiators with VQ35 engines making 450 hp from turboing or supercharging.
YMMV
