Rear Brake suggestion

Postby 604Allstar » Fri Oct 05, 2018 12:36 pm

Hi,

Recently purchased a 2005 Pathfinder LE and need to do a complete rear brake job. So far I have narrowed it down to the following items but open to any suggestion/recommendations

Rear Rotors
Raybestos - 980462
EBC - RK7403
StopTech - 120.42086CRY

Pads
Hawk - HB619y.626 LTS
EBC Green - DP1748

Calipers
????

I'm leaning towards the full EBC Rotor/Pad combo but interested to hear what people have to say. Also need some caliper suggestions

Cheers

I doubt you need calipers. Maybe some slide pins and boots, the kits can be had for under $8 CAD from Rockauto.

I'm at 2yrs/40000km on my Akebono pads (ACT1094 and ACT1101) and Raybestos rotors (980370R and 980462R), they have been flawless. I figure I'll get another 2 or 3 seasons out of them yet.

I'm working on putting together the parts for a brake upgrade on my 2006. In the front, I'll be installing V8 Pathfinder brakes with the 1" bigger rotors. I'll be installing Goodridge SS brake hoses all around.

For the rear brakes, I'm going with EBC DP41758R "yellow stuff" brake pads with EBC GD rotors S5KR1232. I'm probably going with Powerstop S2994A rear calipers w/ brackets.

The caliper has seized and has caused deep gouge in the rotors. Im worried that if just replaced the slide pins it could do the same thing to the new rotors.

Yeah I will be doing the V8 upgrade when my fronts need replacing.

I was looking at the "yellow stuff" pad but dont do any towing so decided to go with the greens.

what made you go with Slotted and Dimpled Brake Rotors vs blanks? Do you tow at all?

I don't tow much, but I do drive a bit aggressive at times and have to get heavy on the brakes to get that heavy Pathfinder to a halt! The last time I changed the front brakes pads and rotors I used Akebono Pro ACT Ceramics and Raybestos Professional Series Advanced Technology rotors. With the front pads around the halfway point as far as wear, they show some deep heat cracks in the linings. The rotors also have a lot of small heat cracks in them and pulsate badly during heavy braking. I used the EBC catalog to help pick out what I wanted to used. The Yellow Stuff pads are not just good for towing, but also for fast street driving and racing, so it covers a lot of bases. I already got Yellow Stuff pads for the front, but if I were going to do it again, I'd get the Orange Stuff pads. I wasn't sure when I looked at them if they would be compatible with the Yellow pads on the rear and they don't make Orange pads for the rear of our Pathfinders. After I purchased the Yellow front pads, I got an e-mail from EBC that said it would be perfectly OK to use the Orange in the front and Yellow in the back.
