Need your help - Purchasing Used 2012 Pathfinder

Postby grahamwzim » Thu Jan 31, 2019 6:40 pm

Hi all - I registered for your advice.

I have a 2001 Pathfinder and will be looking to purchase a used 2012 Pathfinder Silver Edition this weekend.

I'd like your help on what I should be looking out for. I can reply with links/carfax etc. if needed. The vehicle currently has 99,000 miles on it without any damage or maintenance issues (at least acknowledged).

Like I said, any advice on what to look out for, what to check, etc. specific to this vehicle is much appreciated.

The Carfax might tell us quite a bit..
But even so there really arent a whole of of weak spots in this generation of Pathfinder especially the most sorted final 2 model years (2012 bieng final year)

The Silver Edition is a good value IMO what with the leather and Bose.

Speaking of the Bose.. there is a capacitor in the radio that sometimes goes bad .....which means the car wont keep the time, radio presets and mpg memory.

Set the accurate time then turn off vehicle .. wait at least 1-2 minutes then turn vehicle on and check if the clock is still right.

Thank you so much!

here is the carfax link: https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p ... N4CC609756

If this is supposed to be confidential then please let me know and I will delete.

My only concern is no routine maintenance done for 60k miles, at least according to carfax. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to look at the engine and vehicle on saturday and have an idea of any issues I should be looking for.

The carfax looks pretty normal.
Its common to see big gaps in maintenance as most shops dont report work done to Carfax....generally only the dealer and the biggest repair chains do.

2011s and 12s are considered something of a catch by some.

Just carefully check out the general condition (clock holds time?its not a cheap fix if it doesnt) and do a thorough testdrive as with any used car.

Thanks again for all your help. I did not purchase the 2012 pathfinder this past weekend, I found out it was 2WD!

But I found another one and have a few questions:
- How many miles is too many miles for a used 2012? The one I'm looking at has 170k miles and I've steered clear of anything with 150k+. What should I cap my search on when it comes to miles?
- Also, I've steered clear of 06-09 years because of the issues I've heard re: transmission. How concerned should I be about those issues? For example, here is a 06 that I've been looking at briefly but steered clear of until now: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sal ... pe=listing

Thanks again

I'm in a hurry to go to bed. but that 06 is an LE which is very nice.. you get the upgraded transfer case (with an "auto" setting added).

The price is good.. if you cna inspect it and it doesnt have SMOD then just replace the radiator riht away and you will be good.
Give it a thorough testdrive..

The 05-10 transmissions are just as strong as the later ones if the radiator doesnt stab them in the back. If u can ascertain it hasnt happened just change the rad.

I would not hesitate w/ that 06 as long as it passes a through inspection.. older vehicles are more susceptible to gasket leaks.. so a through and not short testdrive then get under the vehicle.

Also the money saved from a older car.. go ahead and use a part of that to get ALL fluids replaced (unless they look brandnew)
