Tailgate issue

Postby Graham W » Mon May 13, 2019 3:35 am

Tail gate itself is working, buuuuuut.....

When the vehicle is locked and you forget to unlock it and grab the tailgate handle to open the boot mine partially opens and sets the alarm off !

Ive shut the tailgate and locked it and pulled the handle and it feels like its catching sometimes. If i do it a couple of times then it wont open.

BTW it doesnt open fully when it does this, catches on the metal boot catch then sets the alarm off.

Tried spraying the latch and inside the lever, no difference, so planning to pull the plastic trim off and cleaning it all up.

The central locking mech does seem to make the right sounds.

Stripped all the plastic off the inner tailgate.
Took the actuator off. The system is cables and levers which I cleaned
off with silicone spray and put spray grease on after.
The actuator seemed ‘gritty’ when the lock lever manually moved,
I tried to open it up but no chance so I drilled a small hole and filled with
PTFE WD40, all back together and seems loads better.

The trim was a be@tch to put back on but all good now 😀

I once had some issues on an Xterra not too different..
Just sprayed the heck out of the mechanism with WD40...

Seemed to work, mostly.. but then I never opened it up
