Engine keeps dying!!

Postby jimbob2154 » Wed Jul 10, 2019 3:41 pm

I don't know if it's electrical problem or not. I can drive the car for a while, 15 or 20 minutes, then stop at a stop sign or light, and the engine dies. It will crank again and then immediately die again. If I let it sit for 3 or 4 minutes it will crank and run fine again until another 15 or 20 minutes. Any idea what might cause this? 2006 Pathfinder SE w/4.0 L engine.

You should have it scanned for trouble codes. A possibility is a bad crank position sensor or a bad cam position sensor (there are two of them). They can fail as they heat up, cause a no spark condition, and then cool off and start working fine, again. They don't always trigger a trouble code. Also, if replacing, it's best to stick with Hitachi or genuine Nissan parts.
Some other things to look at: sources of unmetered air leaks...like at splits in the rubber ducts of the air intake, worn spark plugs, dirty MAS hotwire, rodents nests in the air box and/or low fuel pressure.
