MODELS TO AVOID!

Postby Joely_Bland » Mon Jul 31, 2023 6:06 pm

Hey all!

I’m seriously considering buying myself a Pathfinder, just doing some research. It’s likely to be anything from the 2005-2012 range but I’m just wondering if there are any particular year/model that I should avoid reliability wise?
Also as regards MPG, how do you feel the diesel engine stacks up for long motorway journeys?

Cheers

Joel

Anything '05~'10 can get SMOD if it hasn't been bypassed or fitted with an upgrade radiator. The worst for that are the '05~'07's. Anything '05~'10 can also have the bad Borg-Warner timing chains, so if there's no documentation that they've been replaced, don't buy anything with a "mad bumblebee" whine coming from the front of the motor that gets madder when you rev it.

We dont get the Diesel in the US but long motorway journeys I would expect to be its forte.
The 04-10 model years have a reputation for bad radiators ( that when failing take out the otherwise quite reliable, automatic transmission almost instantly).
But I do not know if this applies to the Diesel models as well.
