motor mounts problems

Postby jonneil » Fri Oct 15, 2010 8:44 pm

I have an 2006 Pathfinder SE with about 80,000 miles on it. I frequently take it in to my nearby Nissan dealer for standard maintenance and oil changes. The service dept. has told me in the recent past that a couple of my motor mounts have been leaking, and that I should have them replaced to approx 700 dollars. I do have a broad knowledge of auto mechanics, and I have observed no vibration upon starting, revving, and normal driving of the engine. Has anybody else experienced engine mount problems with the late model Pathfinders, or is the stealership trying to sell me an unnessary repair.

Sounds like a unnessary repair to me... If I looked at the diagram correctly the mounts are solid and have a rubber isolator to separate them from the frame. Look here http://www.courtesyparts.com/pathfinder ... _6840.html I'd find a new dealer to go to if i were you and at $700 thats seems far beyond crazy!

Yes, they said it was leaking silicon. They described it at an doughnut shaped dampener that has silicon inside of it. Does anybody know if this it true or not?
Last year I had the same dealership do the fuel sending unit repair at a discounted rate per Nissan customer service, and maybe they are squeezing me for an unnecessary repair.

I don't know what type of mounts the PF has, but many cars come with hydraulic mounts. Usually they are rubber with some sort of fluid in them to reduce vibrations being transmitted into the cabin.

So it's not unrealistic for this to be the case here. I've had two other cars with mm leaks, but they were high hp vehicles

I manage a Collision shop in Gilbert so I know of a few honest, reputable mechanical repair shops in the Gilbert/Mesa area. Let me know if your interested.

I took my Pathfinder in with 65k miles for the oil pressure sensor and the Nissan dealer ended up also replacing my RT side motor mount that they said was broken. (It was free under the extended warranty) I never felt any symptoms of it being broken either.

Thanks pawjr74,
I work in Mesa, so if you could steer me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
The dealer that repaired your nissan didn't happen to be Riverview Nissan would it?

Motor mounts

I just took my 2005 PF in for 60K service and was told today that I need motor mounts but they can wait a little while--$700+--yes they can. I too wondered if I should get second opinion.

Both of my mounts have been replaced. 1 @ 50k and the other @ 72k.

I had the extended warranty at the time so it didn't cost me anything so of course I ok'd it.

Most motor mounts these days are oil filled. I am assuming that is what they are talking about when they say that the mounts are "leaking".
