2007 SE rear hatch

Postby NoCode » Mon Dec 06, 2010 9:30 am

How hard/easy is it to close your rear hatch on your PF? Mine slams no matter how easy I try to shut it, like there is no resistance in the pneumatic support rods.

It stays up fine when open, and when I try to keep it from slamming, it doesn't shut all the way and I end up having to slam it anyway. Just seems like all that slamming can't be good for the wiper mechanics on the back glass.

My Odyssey has a nice tight feel to it all the way to closing in its back hatch, PF doesn't.

Anyone else notice this on theirs?

Mine is the same way. Close it too softly and it won't latch all the way. Close it hard enough to latch and you are slamming it hard enough to make everyone around jump a bit.

The 08 model must be different. I can place mine gently in the closed position and the latching mechanism will pull it closed the rest of the way. I need to remind my friends and family that they don't need to slam my lift gate.

I was gonna mention that as well. Mine will slam if you let it...but I usually shut it softly and let the closer pull it in. Not sure if that was the way it worked in '07 but seems to be SOP for '08+

nissan must have modified the latch mechanism for 2008, nothing soft about the 2007 closure.

The other thought is the electronic part has been busted from years of slamming! I've wondered how well that could hold up nevermind the times my wife slams it because she can't remember to let it close itself.

There is definitely no electronic mechanism of any kind on my '07. Now that everyone here is mentioning it, I want one. Too bad it's probably a $150 part from Nissan.

I can't find the part on Courtesy site. I was curious as well figuring this is something that will break. Mine will slam very hard if you just let if fall. It's very light so the closer makes it very nice but I can't imagine it won't break at some point. I noticed on the Courtesy site there's an assembly that's different just for 2008 but I don't see anything that refers to the electric closer.

Why not just turn the bump stops on the rear hatch?

Does anyone know if this exists on 2010 Pathfinders? I have an LE, but there does not seem to be "soft close" mechanism and was wondering if I should have the dealer check it.

This is the manual from mine, page 3-22 of the 2009 manual.

What's strange about this? Mine is a 2008. So somebody must have replaced the manual with a 2009 model. So at the very least this seems to have been a standard feature for 2008 and 2009. Notice is does not say "optional" or "if equipped" as it does for other options.

Okay, someone please find a part number for us. I'd be very happy with that feature as I'm afraid my hatch will just fall apart one of these days from it slamming.

My point was for others to check their owners manuals and see if it's actually there. I'm guessing most of these have broken quickly. I recall having a luxury car once with the electric trunk closer and after a couple unknowing folks slammed the lid that was the end of it.

Nevermind I did the work for ya's...

According to the owners manuals posted on Nissan website the electric latch is on 2008-2011 models.
