Remove Shifter !!! HELP ME

Postby bradusf » Tue Mar 29, 2011 4:44 pm

I am trying to remove the empty tray in the dash to install a break controller in it. I found a string where someone had done that but the Shifter is different in my Pathfinder. I can not lift the part of the console that surrounds the shifter away from the dash. Can some one tell me how to remove the shifter or the knob? Thanks!

Step 1: Use the shift unlock button to shift the shifter into the 3rd position (Neutral)

Step 2: Use a small screw driver to pop off the chromed plastic part that covers the lower part of the shift knob by inserting it between the plastic and the leather shift knob. A slight twist of the screwdriver will loosen the chrome cover and you should now see the lower part of the shift knob.

Step2: Now remove the C-clamp that holds the shift knob in place.

Step 3: Pull off the shift knob.

You are going to have to get a good look at your shifter mechanism to get an idea of what's going on. This requires removal of the center console, which isn't as bad as it sounds. Once that's out of the way, you can see it operate and figure out why it's not locking into the gears like it should.
