no heat untill moving

Postby rtcaravan » Wed Nov 02, 2011 5:03 pm

the wife let the 06 pathfinder warm up and defrost the windows this morning. she hopped in and and there was no heat but was at operating temp. she started moving and went about 20 yards and the heat started to come out. is this normal for these?

Not normal for my 2005. But the rear window defroster does suck!

You might check your coolant level

You are aware of the common defect in the radiator causing cross contamination from the transmission fluid, aren’t you? That may be where your coolant went.

Same problem here. It seems to be common with the issue regarding coolant leaking into the transmission. Mine is currently at the shop getting checked. Tranny fluid looked fine, but I don't want to pay out the a$$ if the two liquids meet.

I've had a bunch of coolant 'evaporate' as well. No leaks found anywhere, and my transcooler is by-passed.

Make sure to bleed the air out well, the rear heat gets water-locked really easily.

I noticed when my wife pulls into garage alot of time I get the smell of coolant near the front. But when I check coolant levels, it always is full.

I have done the tranny / rad bypass.

When I changed the oil in it this weekend, I also went back and put some low pressure air into the internal cooler to blow out any remaining trans fluid in case it cracked.

checked the trans fluid (don't know why dipstick is bolted) and don't look like it's leaking into it. i think the heat thing did that since we got it in feb. i didn't check the fluids because i thought they did that when i bought it, but i guess not. i will have to top it off tomarrow.

I had the same thing going on with my 05. Just a little low on the coolant. I topped off the system a few weeks ago and it's been fine since.

no heat

i had the same problem with my 05. I would always have to top off the radiator every couple months. Turned out to be a leak at the rear, took the tire off and saw the build up on 2 spots. I had to cut out the aluminum piping and replace it with rubber tubing. Check yours, seems to be a common thing with 05-07.

Similar Issue

Just had my radiator and heat pump replaced after the dealer found a crack in the radiator and said the coolant had become contaminated and clogged up the heat pump... $1200 later and the heat works great again!
