vibration..

Postby danny » Sun Sep 12, 2010 3:31 pm

I have an 05 LE and it just started to vibrate at 45mph and up with my foot on the accelerator and if i take my foot off the vibration goes away but will return when i press the gas again. seems to be a driveline vibration to me...if it were a tire or bearing i would think it would do it on deceleration also. any ideas? u-joints? rearend? thanks in advance.

failing u-joints seem to be a common source of vibration

Seems to be.. I'm having the same thing with my 05 SE, 56k miles. I was pretty sure it was a U joint and am 99% convinced I found it today. In my case, its the front joint at the front differential. It moves a lot in all directions with my hand when the rear one is rock solid.

just curious, the service manual specifies to replace the driveshaft yoke fastening nuts & bolts (svc manual pg PR-11: "Caution: Do not reuse the nuts and bolts. Always install new ones.")
Did they?

I am experiencing this as well. Vibration starts at 60 and gets more noticeable as the speed increases.

I inspected the front propeller shaft and there is side play, so I am going to take it off then take a quick test drive to verify it's bad.

I plan on replacing it myself it's pretty simple.

Regards

Few months ago, I got the same vibration in my 05 PF. Turned out to be a destroyed U-Joint. I changed both U-Joints and that fixed all my problems. Have a close look at the U-Joints and check if they have any damage. Mine were bone dry and rusted right out with chunks of metal missing.

No recall. The two U-Joints cost me less than $50 for the two after taxes. The U-Joints are a part of regular maintenance so ya gotta change them every so often. The only other thing is that you wanna make sure you get the U-Joints with the greasable nipples. If you take it into the dealership/shop, make sure they use the greasable U-Joints. Lack of grease is the main reason for failure. Good Luck. :D

so im getting this at 45mph too. i was starting to think it was tranny related, but it only seems to happen at 45mph. if you accelerate or left off gas, it goes away...

how do you tell if it's the u-joint?
