Powder Coated Wheels and Duratracs

Postby tntitan » Wed Mar 21, 2012 6:52 am

After scouring through tons of posts about the duratracs and getting ideas about painting my wheels, I finally pulled the trigger. I found a good deal for a set of 06 wheels for a really good price. Since these were an extra set of wheels, I decided to explore powder coating options since most of the guys on here already have their tires mounted before deciding to paint. Luckily, a co worker used to work at a place that does powder coating and he gave me the hook up. Here are the before and after pics. Thanks everyone on this forum who share great info and ideas.

Thanks for the good feedback guys. The size is 265/75/r16. The setup is stock for the 06 off road version pathy. No issues what so ever throwing them on my 08.

Nice job. You have the same color Pathfinder as I do. I've been thinking of doing this as well. I've already purchased my duratracs and love them. I've actually been using black tape on my rims to see if I like the looks. Too bad I didn't get them done prior to using them.

Thanks volvite. I saw your truck and was admiring the frontier rims you put on. Id be curious to see how they come out in black. Although they already look good on the pathy wrapped with the duratracs.

I'm not a fan of black wheels myself, but they do look really nice on yours & complement your body color. Nice job!

What lens did you use on your D7000 in the photos?

Thanks nvsteve. I used the 35mm 1.8 g. Bought the camera last august and still trying to learn how to use it. I also have the 18-200 vr that it came with.

Now, that is a proper way to sort out the wheels - real powdercoating and some nice beefy tires (vs spray can job). I think matte black finish looks awesome on grey truck. How did you color-match those plastic center caps? Also, how much did the powdercoat job run you, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks slavabon. They guy charged me $50 a wheel. I used plastidip spray on my grill and center caps. The Nissan Emblem pops off the center caps so I didnt have to mess with a delicate tape job.

How is the road noise with Duratracks, by the way? I'm curious if the hum a lot compared to stockers?

There is more noise compared to the OEM tires, the tread is more aggressive and open which generally creates more road noise. However, it's not annoying by any means.
