Deluxe Suspension Package from 4x4parts

Postby doctahjones » Sun Apr 01, 2012 9:19 am

went to the casino last night for my bday and walked out with $1k. so that means i can go ahead and get my suspension upgrade done!

anyone gotten this package? seems like it's an ok deal for the price ($440 + 60 shipping)?

https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/deluxe- ... -5843.html

2x front bilstein ride height adj
2x rear coils that provide 2in
2x rear bilstein hd's

i figure it's ~200 for the front shocks, ~140 for the rears and 300 for the coils separately which would come out to 640.

i'm not a serious offroader, really just going for a little more height and a little more tire. maybe take it through some mud once a year and snow a few times a year.

I do not have this package yet, however, I'm probably going to order it today. I drive mostly on the road but I do drive on the beach a time or two every month usually. my jeep wrangler didn't have any issues but I'm worried about the pathfinder bottoming out.

Did you get this lift in yet and have you had a chance to install it? If so, how do you like it so far? Were there any alignment issues after the lift?

Thanks

yup got it in and installed a couple weeks ago.

overall i love it. not sure if it's just because my old shocks i could compress with minimal force by hand, or because they are just that good.

the install on the front was relatively easy. however i couldn't get the spring compressor to fit inbetween the springs, so i ended up taking the strut assembilies to a local shop to have them switch them out. i had them put the spacer at 1.5in because i wanted to retain a little bit of rake. however after everything has settled the car is even (so i'm wondering if the guy actually set the front struts to 2in?) unless i have my airbags inflated.

the rear was a pretty big b*tch. the spring part was easy, but the top bolts of the shocks were the biggest PITA to get to.

as for the alignment, i had it done right after everything was put back together. it was still pulling right after that so i took it in a 2nd time (i got the 1yr alignment deal from NTB). so far no more pulling, but i'm not sure if everything is good or not. inbetween the 1st and 2nd alignments (about a week maybe) I did have some front-to-back feathering in the rear tires (as in if you're looking at the vehicle from the side, the feathering was front the front to the back of the vehicle on the tire). and on the front i had the feathering typical for improper toe (inside to outside of the tire). i just had my tires rotated so we'll see if they return to normal wear or not.

i was figuring that maybe the new suspension was still settling or something which was why i had to take it in the second time.

my buddy (who used to work at discount tire in college) said that usually the rear tire wear i was getting would be from doing burn outs but i haven't been doing -that-. however i did get that airraid installed so i've been even -more- heavy footed since.

that airraid must be doing something right, because if i was this heavy footed before i'd only be getting 10-12mpg, and i've been getting 13-14 city so far.

I got my lift installed a week ago and now I see that I need to get the Airlift 1000 to get rid of the slight reverse rake that it has now. Do you happen to know the part number you used on the airlift? I have stock springs in the rear with spacers on the top of the spring. Will I run into any problems getting the air bags int here with the spacers on the top?

I am debating on switching from the spacers to the 2" lift spring from 4x4 parts. Do you know how much lift those added before the airlift 100o was installed?

not sure about how hard it will be with the spacer. is there a hole through the middle of the spacer that you can run a small tube through? if so then yeah no big deal. if not, you might have a problem.

my before measurements were on a slight incline. I also measured from the bottom of the tire, through the middle and ended at the bottom of the fender flare.

before:
FL - 34.75in (drivers side)
FR - 34.5
RL - 34.5 / 35 w/airlift@30psi
RR - 34.5 / 35 w/airlift@30psi

after (front bilsteins at 1.5in mark, rear with 4x4parts springs)
FL - 35.75
FR - 35.75
RL - 36 w/airlift @20psi
RR - 35.75 w/airlift @20psi

i almost want to get some 1in spacers to add to the 4x4parts springs, as i didn't get as much lift as i had thought. then i would have a definite 1in rake, which is what i really wanted.

Yes there is a hole in the spacer, so it sounds like this would be pretty easy to install. I was under it today while putting some flat black rust preventer on the frame and had a chance to take a look at it.

Where did you mount the hose to fill the bags with?

My pre and post measurements are below. Measured from the bottom of the tire to the top of the wheel well.

Before.
FL: 33-7/8"
FR: 33-7/8"
RL: 33-7/8"
RR: 34"

After
FL: 36"
FR: 36"
RL: 35-1/2"
RR: 35-3/4"

I am hoping that the Airlift will even things out. Does anyone have experience with this?

Hey guys,

I am looking into the Bilstein Deluxe 2" lift from 4x4 parts as well ($440). What type of tools do you need for this install? Do you need a coil compressor? Would you have a soft copy of the installation procedure or know the link?

I have never done this kind of work before but am game to try. Any insight into the installation would be great.

Thanks in advance.

air tools are highly recommended, and breaker bars are -required- (unless you're he-man and have -solid- tools). it helps to have a crow/prybar to help get the spring out of the bowl it sits in. i can't remember exactly what socket sizes i used, but 14, 17, 19, and 21mm seem to come to mind.

for the front, disconnect the sway bar and i think i took off part of the upper control arm to make it easier to get to the three bolts on top of the strut assembly. you don't need a spring compressor if you're going to take them to a shop and have them change it out. i'd actually kind of recommend that anyway. usually it gives you a chance to grab some lunch and hopefully they'll be about done when you finish.

the top bolts for the rear shock are a BIT**. the one on the drivers side you can only get 1 click on the ratchet. takes like 10 minutes to get it off. the other is at such an odd angle right near the muffler that having an air tool/impact wrench to get it off helped alot.

there's a thread somewhere that also details how to redo your rear suspension. can't remember if it's on here or what, but i used that for guidance for the rear, and my friend with a frontier for guidance on the front (he had already changed his out with bilsteins, and the fronts seem to be the same).

you must get your alignment done after you do it. i'd recommend getting a "1 year" alignment or something, and be prepared to take it in a couple times as your suspension continues to settle.

Thanks Doctahjones,

I don't have air tools but do have a BFH that might work. How long did it take you to install? Do you still like the Bilstein Deluxe package?
