Frame rust proofing

Postby Gray » Fri Mar 28, 2008 4:22 pm

Looking for suggestions as to how one could do an efficient anti-corrosion treatment on the inside of the box frame beams. Plug all of the beam holes and spray something from one end or other suggestions, what protectant would be most effective so that treatment wouldn't have to be done every couple of years. Thanks.

A buddy of mine used Rhino lining on his '05 PF. He says though initially expensive, it holds up to the sea salt and off road abuse he puts it through. Just an idea. He says you can just paint it on.

Someone suggested using a 3M rubberized undercoating product such as used by Mercedes Benz. Have any here used this one, "3M™ Underseal™ Rubberized Undercoating, 08883, 1 lb 3.7 oz Net Wt, 6 per case";

A friend recently purchased an 08 GMC pickup and interestingly the box frame and ladder members appear to be factory coated with something that appears to be bees wax or similar rather than a rubber compound.
