[/quote]What type of guard cage/gate do you have?

I've looked into a few and either they look too cheaply made or are way overpriced, or both.

That's the truth. This one I bought about 12 years ago for a Saturn wagon I had at the time. I can't remember the brand. I have it tied in to the headrest posts and use a piece of wood to set the feet in and stop it being pushed in at the bottom. I'm out of the country at the moment but will take a pic when I get back in about 10 days.

Here's what it looks like installed. The unit is a Barrie-Aire made by Kennel Aire. Like I said above I bought it years ago and it seems the design has changed a bit since then looking at amazon. On mine the bottom half of the legs screws up into the black part adjusting vertical fit and tension against the roof. I found in the pathy that I was stretching the vertical limit and it rattled a lot so in a fit of pique I filled the hollow legs with expanding foam. Much quieter but the legs are now locked solid. I also had a problem with the chocolate lab in the picture above leaning up against it and pushing the bottom in so it would all topple over, hence the wooden base (this also saves the husky liner - the red rubber tips of the posts having worn exposing the metal thread but where they sit in the wood doesn't go all the way through) and the cord around the rear headrest posts....so all in all its hardly a stock outfit, but it stays upright, is quiet while not pressing too hard on the headliner and isn't too fiddly to put in and out.

Here is one of my 5 that we have at the moment. We do Pitt Bull rescue and with 4 kids one of them always gets attached and we end up keeping them....
This one was my own fault Smile

Gotta love the awesome nose licking shot...
