2006 hvac problem

Postby pcsmits » Tue Sep 03, 2013 6:39 pm

I have a 2006 pathy it has 90,xxx miles on it the problem is the hvac controls went haywire the ac will kick on with the fan settings on 1 2 3 fan wont blow though turn it to 4 the ac shuts off and the fan blows full speed on the lower settings the ac light comes on the compressor engages the clutch and I can feel cold air going into the lower box under the dash. Only thing I have came up with is a blower motor resister but would that let it only work on high speed and turn the ac off? My wife did mention last week she could hear a slight squeak under the dash when she would turn on the ac any info is greatly appreciated. this is a no rear ac system

you need to replace your blower motor resistor.

If you have auto climate control, it would be a blower motor amplifier.

Based on his description, it sounded manual. But I could be wrong.

He didn't specify, so I just threw that out there. Hate to see him order the wrong part and have to go through the process of returning it!

That's really odd! The A/C clutch is is controlled by the A/C relay in the IPDM/ER, which has its own CPU. Input from the blower resistor is shared by the BCM and the front air control. These all communicate via controlled area networking (CAN). I think in order to diagnose the problem, one would need a scantool to monitor the data of the BCM and IPDM/ER.

Well i have a new question anoyher 50 for.a reistor worked for 3 days everything checks out at nissan stealer ship i did notice the other night the led lights i put in the over head lights are still barley lite up on the door setting with the car off and doors closed could it be possable they are on the same electrical ase the blower motor? From research i have found that the resister only cuts power on the 123 fan speeds and if it doesnt have air flowover it on those settings it over heats and burns out could the led lights be letting enough power to trickle into it while the car is off and over heating it

Lights should be on a different circuit than the blower motor. The most common cause for a repeated failure of the blower resistor is a blower motor that is going bad and drawing too many amps.

Well i pulled the blower motor it does not spin freely bye hand do you know what it should ohm at? Its only 43 for a new one from rock auto the reistors are getting expensive. I tried a google search on blower motors i couldnt get a good answer on if the should spin easy or not

There will be a little resistance, like any electric motor, but should still spin pretty easy. Only way to check the amperage is with a clamp on meter, but since Nissan doesn't give a spec value for it, it's only useful information if you have another to compare it to. Back in the 90's Nissan got a bad run of blower motors from their supplier and Sentras were going through blower resistors left and right until Nissan figured out it wasn't the resistors that were faulty, but the blowers that were drawing too many amps and burning them out.

I agree with smj999smj.
A resistor is a current (amps) limiting device. When a load (in this case a blower motor) draws more current than what the resistor is designed for… well, it overheats & burns up (opens).
One could lube the motor with a “good” oil like MotorKote, but at the price of the resistors, it would be best to replace the motor to make certain the job is done right.

Ya its ordered i really am getting turned off to nissan all the pathfinders have the same problems about the same time tranny cooler issues belt tensioner blower motor resister most auto manufactures issue recalls for this kind of stuff 90xxx miles and everything is falling apart. My 62 fairlane heater works the same it did when new just a good old metal leaver
