Advice - Buy New or Trade in?

Postby dbridgeman » Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:48 am

My 01 Pathfinder has some issues. A small coolant leak that I'm told you either have to pull the engine or transmission to fix. I also burn about 2qts of oil every 5000 miles. My ABS and 4WD lights are on. I need tires and haven't done the suspension yet either. At 150,000 miles, would you trade this in or invest in it to get it back in shape? I'm worried that I'll put money into this and the coolant / oil issues will become a big problem. I welcome your thoughts.

THANKS!

How much would you get for trade in? Do you have space to keep the 01 Path and the new car? Is the 01 Path your only car?

If it is your only car, I would keep it just in case for a while.

If you feel that you wont need your path if you buy a new car, then trade it in even though I think you will get low value because dealers really lower your actual value and you have high mileage plus all the money that needs to be put in your path to actually "fix" it. If you do trade in, try to fix as many things yourself without spending too much money to get a higher trade in value.
