central locking issue on 2007 pathfinder

Postby ryanom » Thu Aug 02, 2012 5:36 pm

Hi all, Hope someone can shed some light on this one. I've got a 2007 pathy which up until now has been faultless. The problem i'm having is with getting the doors to lock with the remote fob. Curently if you press the lock button nothing happens. About two weeks ago the fob would only lock the doors intermitenly, might work today and then won't tomorrow. No big deal i think, must need a new battery in the fob. Replaced the battery and still nothing.
I've taken the pathfinder back to the local dealer and they are saying that their computer shows that the key is sending a signal to the pathfinder but it's not responding. The local dealer has tried to reprogram the key and onboard computer but it still won't work.
I bought another key off Ebay and they can't get that one to work either.
The dealer has now thrown his hand in the air saying "we've never had this problem with a pathfinder before" and sent me on my way.
help.....................

The key has nothing to do with the keyless entry remote transmitter, so I don't understand why you are replacing keys nor why the dealer is concerned about the recognition of the key by the ECM. What they should be checking is if the BCM is receiving the signal from the remote and if the remote is transmitting a signal. They should have a tool that tells if the remote is transmitting (dealers were force-shipped the tool as "required equipment"). If the remote is working, then the procedure would be to initialize the remotes to the BCM. The procedure is as follows:

Close all of the doors on your vehicle after you enter it and lock the doors with the tab on the driver's side door.

Insert and remove your key from the ignition six times in 10 seconds and wait for the hazard lamps to flash before inserting the key in the ignition again and turning it to the "Acc" position.

Press any button on your transponder remote and wait for the hazard lamps to flash, which indicates successful programming. Repeat for each remote until all remotes are programmed (up to 5 can be programmed).

Turn the key to the "Off" position and remove it from the ignition to end the procedure.

*NOTE: If the hazard lights don't flash when you press a button on the remote to program it, and the remote has been confirmed as sending a signal, either the remote is the wrong one for that vehicle or there is a communication problem with the BCM, or possibly a bad BCM (Body Control Module). A capable scantool would be required to communicate with the BCM in order to diagnose and isolate the problem.

OK so i've gone and tried to reprogram the key using the above method and i can't get the hazard lights to flash. I guess this means i've got a problem with the BCM, is that somthing that can be reprogramed or does it need to be replaced??? Also i found this in the car, i guess the dealer left it behind, what is it ??

The problem will have to be diagnosed using a scantool and the service manual procedure; I can't say with certainty that the BCM is bad without the proper diagnostics to validate it. As far as the tool, it's probably an expensive bit of equipment that somebody will be looking for at the dealer! I left Nissan in 2003, so I'm not familiar with it. It does have an OBD II style connector and would imagine it has something to do with programming. Does it have a brand or number on it? Most Nissan tools are from Kent-Moore and use numbers preceded by the letter "J." If you have that number, you can Google search and find out what it is. HandsonTools.com is a site that sells Kent-Moore.

Dear SMJ, I have a Similar issue with my Pathfinder(2006). When I lock my Doors, all lock except the Rear Nearside Passenger door. I can lock them All from Inside and all the Doors lock Perfectly. However, if I then exit the car from the Drivers door, or any other door for that Matter. When I try to lock the door I've just used to Exit the car, using the Remote FOB, the Rear passenger Door Unlocks ?
My only solution to this at present is to Lock the doors Internally and exit via the Front Passenger door and then use the Key lock to lock the Front Passenger door. This doesn't affect the Lock of the Rear passenger door and the car is secured. However this is a Tad inconvinient. Can you maybe advise What might be happening and if there is something I can do myself or at least point my Local Dealership or Local Auto Electrician towrds ? Many thanks in Advance.
