Creaking Noise up front

Postby 1armyguy » Fri Mar 28, 2014 10:18 am

Hello all, I was wondering since there doesn't seem to be any zerk fittings. What else should I be looking at to identify the creaking noise when going over bumps and also turning left.
Any advice and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Is it a long creak or a brief chirp? Brief chirp will likely be the hood latch which is an easy fix. Wrap some electrical tape around the strike to tighten it up. Cheap to rule that out anyway.

It's actually a long squeak. It happens also by just turning the wheel to the left.

Sway bar bushings? They're crap and had updated part #'s a few years back. If you haven't changed them yet they probably need it either way. They were like $10 or something cheap like that. That was the only "repair" I did on my PF during the first 80k miles!

I did have them changed when it was in for a transmission shifter service. I'll check them to be sure though. I just need to wait until it stops raining.

Thanks again for the help.
Any other advice and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'm having the short 'chirp' issue. I've tried the electric tape and replaced the sway bushings and links... it seems to happen only when the passenger wheel drops into a pothole (etc). so on a quick drop of the wheel, not on the impact or kick up. any other suggestions?
Thanks for any help,

Thanks for any help,
Lower shock absorber mounting bush? I have just replaced mine (rubber totally missing/perished from one side so the steel inner of the bush was rubbing) This cured my creaking noise.

Turning seems to have no affect. Neither do bumps. Holes etc however are almost 100% to get the noise. Not large holes either, a depressed manhole cover can be enough...

My noises sounds almost like what you'd hear on an old pirates ship or something. When moving slowly anyway. I've got the chirping as well but I'll bet that's the hood. My sway bar bushings are a little worn but still there for the most part. Laying underneath it while my father in law shook the vehicle, it almost sounds like its coming from right behind the headlight somewhere on the driver side. If you touch the frame you can feel the vibration as it creaks. I am thinking an A-arm bushing, but they look "ok".

I'll join the creaking crowd. Yesterday noticed I have the creaking as well. Long creaking noise while going slower over bumps and uneven pavement, or turning. Sounds like an old pirate ship as described above. Sprayed silicone at every visible bushing and pivoting point I can see while under the front end and still have it.

Here's the thing. I recently lifted it with the Rancho Quick Lift and 2" spacer in the rear and I know it started after that. Also, it has gotten colder here in the lower part of Michigan and that could be it as well. Not sure. It doesn't help when you have a loud system in your ride. I rarely ride with it off. Yesterday I had the wife me and all of a sudden I hear the loud suspension creak and a noisy ass rattle in the hatch/liftgate.

The hatch shouldn't be too bad to resolve, but this suspension creak has me perplexed. I'll have to get some new bushings for the front sway bar and see if that does anything. Any help appreciated.

Joining the creak, chirping crowd.
Here's a link to a video I took of the chirping on a rocky, bumpy road. Hopefully you can distinguish the chirping from the other bumps and keys jingling... I cant figure this chirp out out:

I also have creaking in front end when going over fairly uneven bumps
