Do I need to change the speakers?

Postby pauljygrant » Sun Sep 05, 2010 7:36 pm

Hi All,
Have searched previous posts, but still confused.
I am wanting to replace the standard Clarion head unit that came with my 2005 R51 Australian model (model CN01A written on front) or (model PN-2371N written on back of unit).
Anyway, I have read that the standard speakers are 2 ohm whilst most after market head units require 4 ohm speakers.
Can anyone tell me if it is essential to replace all speakers, or is it optional, that i could consider at a later date. The new head unit will not be particularly powerful, nor will have any amp - the only reason to replace it is to get ipod connectivity.
All comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Paul

ohms is the measure of the speakers resistance on the line.
if depends on how they are wired.

if ur speakers are connected in series one after the other, add them, then two 2-ohm speakers make 4-ohms. (as if u have one 4-ohm speaker)
if ur speakers are connected in parallel, then its calculated as:

1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2

so two 4-ohm speakers would be as if u have one 2-ohm speaker.
if each speaker has a dedicated line to it, then u dont got an issue.

small story short, replace the head unit alone, and test the sound, if it works, it works, if it doesnt, replace the speakers too :D
