High Rev on Cold Start

Postby BeeEl » Fri May 08, 2020 6:31 am

2011 model
This is my first one to own and I love it. Is it normal for these to immediately go to 2,000 rpm on cold start? It goes there and almost instantly drops to ~1800 and will slowly go down to about ~1600. Once it hits 1600, it stays there until it reaches some sort of preset temp I assume. I understand the idea is to build the heat, but is 2k normal for all these? Seems high on cold start without having oil already in circulation.

Its the ECU deciding how much revs it wants to charge the electrical system and to make sure you dont stall.
There is probably another factor that smj knows

It's called "cold start fast idle" and it's controlled by the ECM and not adjustable. It's normal.
