Good afternoon

Busy morning on the Pathfinder...did change the rear differential fluid and went with Royal Purple . The magnet on the drain bolt had some sludge about the size of the end of your finger...trying to post picture of the fluid that came out...86,305 miles..original fluid and it doesnt look too bad.

Did the trans/radiator bypass today too..not to bad at all..took more time taking off the skidplate and plastic trim than to do the splice. I spliced the 2 lines from the bottom of the radiator..3/8" connector...and used 5/16"vacuum caps to plug the rad. Drove it around about 15 minutes, checked for leaks...None so far !!..Hope the pictures come out....the trans fluid is full still and looks good too.[/quote]

well..I see I cant post the pictures....sorry

I am not an auto mechanic. I put all my faith in my Nissan Dealership. I go get flushes, oil changes, etc. when it is needed. I went to the dealership with my letter about the warranty on the radiator at 77,000 miles. I was worried. At 80,906miles I took it in because my trans slipped. Behold! A cracked radiator. My car is my only means of transportation. The mention of my twins is the fact that they are 17 and drive the car as well. I did not appreciate your rude comment. Nissan will most likely pay in the end. Thousands of people can't be wrong. Shame on Nissan!!!!!!!

I agree Dolly....

I cannot afford a $5 k transmission....I hoped I did the right thing with the bypass.

We weren't rude we just gave you the facts. No one can afford a 5k tranny but that's what savings are for right? Or if possible use your credit to secure a low interest rate loan.

Prevention is always better than cure!

I think if you did the bypass, the only potential reason Nissan would reject a trans claim would be if it overheated. But you'd be having to do something funky or hauling something huge to do that.

Plan ahead???? Why do you think I went to the Dealer with the letter BEFORE anything was wrong. I have completed all recalls, etc. This is Nissan's fault . It should be a recall. They know these radiators are faulty. Like I said. I am NOT a mechanic and bought extra bumper to bumper warranty when I bought it 3 years ago from the Nissan Dealership. The Dealership and I Both contacted consumer affairs. They refused to help me. I will have to take it to a local mechanic, but I am worried about being taken advantage of. I let my father look at it, yet, there are no fluids dripping from the radiator and the trans fluid is clear. He cannot figure out HOW the water is getting into the trans fluid. When I try to Google the diagram of the coolant system, there are soooooo many complaints listed,I can't get a straight answer or a diagram. I called the Dealership and he said the crack is not visible. It is on the lower left side. I really don't think my trans needs to be replaced. Yet. I am afraid to drive it until I get the radiator replaced. The dealership wants $5,500. 00

so true Gadget...when it cools off some here in Georgia, I am going to install a transmission cooler with a fan as I have seen on a post here. I need this Path to last a long time.

Another victim of this. Cost was 1900.00 to get Transmission rebuilt. The mechanic also did the bypass mod discussed here. I wasn't the first Pathy he had done, he said. SUCKS!!!!

Well like dj said you could get it revolt for around 2 so if you are looking for a cheaper solution go with that. Has your tranny been acting funny? If it hasn't your tranny should be fine if you do the full flush and bypass the radiator. Well I'm trying to say is that there isn't planning ahead but unexpected emergencies are one of the many reasons to have it. And you might want to check on the warranty for that radiator. Number has been extended to 86000 miles.

extension is to 96 months/80,000 miles, whichever occurs first

was the extended warranty that you bought a Nissan extended warranty, or was it an aftermarket warranty?

I might have read it wrong but I was surprised by that number too. I'll check the papers I got from my dealership. It seemed kind of odds to me too. I'll double check and let you guts know later. Maybe mine was a special case though? Cause when I bought my path the radiator looked brand new.
