We purchased the PF because it was the best mid-sized 7 passenger vehicle that offered decent towing capacity, and had a true 4 wheel drive power train (our first Nissan) that we could find. We were comparing it head to head with the Ford Explorer V8. We weren't interested in the Chevy Trailblazer or the Dodge Durango because of how cheap they felt.

Wife wanted seating for 7 and I didn't want a minivan. Plus it met the sheet of plywood test.

Because:

My XTerra had served me well. It towed up to three quads, numerous boats, even wooden swingsets, plywood, sheetrock, shrubs, and anything else I could throw at it. But, the mileage was creeping up slowly, and we decided it was time for a new SUV. 7 yr itch.

A few things considered:
1) Light off road capability. Some of the places the quads go can get pretty gnarly.
2) More horsepower with similar or better fuel mileage ratings.
3) More creature comforts, the X was pretty bare... Bring on the TOYZ!

Things we hoped:
1) Comfortable , even while towing.
2) Fully I/S .. Hence comfort. Sorry off-roaders.... No SAS or Leafs here.
3) Nissan offered this... (and we kinda new that)
4) Not another Xterra, for some reason, I hate that.

I had rented a Pfinder while my '96 Astro van was in the shop. I instantly liked the power of it. I didnt get serious about buying one until about a year later.

Things that made me purchase my PF besides the initial driving impression...
V6 with more HP and better fuel economy than the V8 4Runner.
Definately like the styling/ appearance.
Independent rear suspension.
Truck chassis.
Towing capacity.
Fold down flat seats.
Even though it is smaller than my Astrovan, as far as cargo space, it still met my needs for hauling stuff inside.

We needed:

Seating for 7(wife's mandate)
Reliable/Durable
Off-road capable w/low range
Able to tow a reasonable amount
Decent gas mileage
Good cross country comfort
Within a price range we could afford

The list got short real quick. Since Nissan had a model that fit the bill, we focused on that. We've had various Nissan going all the way back to my first car and they've all been great.

I was in the market for a new SUV, had three kids. Knew that I would like the seven seater without having to buy a minivan. I knew the Pathfinder was powerful, had low range, could tow, and the quality was just far above any domestics without a question.
I have driven Fords on a regular basis and wasn't impressed with their bad reliability. I had test driven Dodges, Chevy's and they just felt cheap. I was looking at the Four Runner but the toyota v8 was weak... This vehicle was just a no brainer...
Have a good day y'all...

Because:
1. Needed something large enough to haul around toys & home improvement bits.
2. I can comfortably sleep in it.
3. More power than previously owned V8's.
4. Not strictly a city 4x4 SUV such as the Durango.
5. Quality still above any of the US options.
6. Liked it much better overall compared with the 4Runner.
7. There just wasn't much out there to compare it with, especially if one does not want to purchase American.

Sure thing. My previous ride was a '00 Durango, and I can honestly say that it was built for the pavement. It is pure crap off road, with a Cadillac suspension & all sorts of parts jabbing down toward the ground. Aside from being the ugliest thing ever made, the current style is just as lame. It's just a bunch of lazy engineers designing a vehicle for families, but only for pavement. Not too much fun driving down a dirt road and having the lower shock mount smashed off by a rock because it was only 6" off the ground to begin with.....oh, how I could go on and on about that vehicle. I actually read last week that the Durango is the #1 worst SUV to buy, in terms of resale. No mention of off-road ability though.

my reasons echo many others:

i had a 92 T4r and an 97 F-150....loved e'm both but needed to get down to one vehicle. primarily, i needed a capable off-road vehicle living with room for my two dogs (they are kinda big) and some gear. in las vegas, i couldn't justify get another pick-up - too hot to put the dogs in the back during a lot of the year and i didn't want to dedicate the back seat solely 4 the dogs (e.g. i wanted to be able to put people and dogs in the truck), so i had to get an SUV.

the pathy was a good all around choice for what i needed...longer than the T4r (as NVS stated, i can sleep in the back of this), solid roof rack, solid engine, etc. i also ended up getting a deal that was hard to pass up on an '06 SE...so that helped make the decision.

plus, i liked the look (even more so w/ the OME stance and bigger shoes)

Thanks for the clarification Steve. While I agree the current styling looks like ass, I think the older one, wasnt nearly as bad..

Actually had a deposit on one of the early ones... A "Shelby Durango" before Dodge sorta...well... "Dodge'd" it...

Ended up in the 2000 Xterra... Denim Blue... :)

I bought it solely because I didn't want to go to a sedan, and also I don't like what Toyota, Honda, or the other Japanese or American makes have out in the market. I would also considering buying a Trailblazer, but didn't want to go back to Chevy because every vehicle that I have ever owned has been a Chevy. The choice for me was obvious. All of my relatives have at least one Nissan, and they love them, and praise them for their reliability and durability.

I bought my 06 pathy LE mostly to tow my 19' boat. My 88 Jeep cherokee had 288k on the clock & just didnt have the power.
My pathy was traded in to a Lexus dealer on an LX470. It had 5100 miles on it at trade in & I got it for 22.5k. can we says highway robbery ?
Ive had it 14 months and now have 27k on it with zero problems other that a brokec center console latch.
It tows the boat at 70+ ( I have to watch the speed ) & gets 15 - 17 mpg towing.
Can you tell I really like the vehicle ?
