New Member - R50 Radiator/coolant leak

Postby cobbalini » Wed Jan 19, 2011 7:49 am

Hello - I'm a new member and an owner of a 2004 Platinum LE 4x4. 150k hwy. About a week ago during a cold upstate NY winter day - the heat would cool at idle and heat up again while driving. Took it for an oil change and had the mechanic burp the coolant. Seemed to work for a day. Took the truck back to have rotors adjusted and they noticed a leak in the radiator.
Replaced radiator and thermostat - but still having the heat issue.

Any ideas on how to get the rest of the air out? Also - I noticed 2005's have the coolant transmission problem - is there a risk for the R50's?

Thanks!!!

One trick that I have been told (but never had to do it yet) , is to put the front of the truck higher than the rear... Tis can be done by rolling the front on top of ramps (1 foot high or so). This will create a high point in where the rad is. Start the truck with the rad cap opened and wait for it to warm up. Once the coolant start getting near the top put the cap on and let it run for a couple more minutes then shut it off. If you do not have any more leaks, this procedure should fix it.

Thanks for the advice.

fincsher - everything is stock Nissan - I'm really not sure what you are referring to.
