New to the group...Whats the most aggressive tire for R51?

Hi

I have been visiting this site for some time and thought I would join the group...I have also been in the market for some new tires and thus my first post. I have been wanting some mud terrain tires like the new BFG KW2 or the Yoko Open Country M/T and was wondering what some of you have used in the past. I want a tire that looks aggressive but that is acceptable on the highway(not to loud). What have you all experienced?

I don't think mud terrain and quiet can be used in the same sentence. Are you completely sold on the MT idea? Why not a good AT?

My goal is to have my Pathfinder look different than the sea of pathfinders driven by soccer moms here in inner Houston. I don't want Bentley Silver Spur quite on the freeway just a silent hum is ok. Just don't want to sound like a huge ford f350 with 36" super swampers... I do like the BFG A/T KO's but every one has them and the Toyo open country A/T and the Bridgestone A/T Revos are cool to but just wondering if any one has done a mud terrain tire.

I know someone posted here with photos of their PF with Wrangler MTs. Looks super sweet & I may do the same after my Revos wear out, although I'd have to get them siped.

Hi,

I just got rid of my 01 Frontier Crewcab supercharged 4x4. I had the Goodyear Wrangler MTRs in size 275/70/17. For a mud tire, they were outstandingly quiet. I loved the tires on the truck, but just couldn't justify for the family hauler. Goodyear is just now releasing the same tire, but with Kevlar belts for improved ride, quietness and puncture resistence. It will be available in the same size listed above which will fit a PF with 17" wheels.

I decided to put the Firestone Destination ATs on our PF. A great all-terain tire that is very quiet. I wanted the GY Wrangler Silentarmor, but they were $40 more for each tire. I just couldn't justify it.

The MTRs will really look the part on the PF, if not a bit overkill.

On my old 4x4 I had 33x12.5 BFG M/T KM2. On the highway the tires were nice and quite but I had problems keeping them ballanced. When I was not wheeling all the time I had BFG A/T KM2. The A/T were very nice tires and will be my next choice for the PF

Those look like nice tires. I'll have to keep those in mind when it comes time to replace mine. The "shootout" was a bit pointless though. There are more than 3 AT tires on the market.

Anyone familiar w/ the Nitto Terra Grappler? Get great reviews, and reasonably priced at about $130 per.

i agree on both points....but they do look like some solid shoes. would love to hear some personal reviews of them

i have friends who run them...they seem happy w/ them, but i do hear some complaints about wear life. but tires wear quick in the desert sun so who know's.

pretty certain they have a softer rubber compound than some of the other tires...might contribute to the wearing during the hot summers out here?

A local shop quoted me $597 installed for 4 265/75 16 Mastercraft Courser MT's and these are made by cooper. They also make a CT that my dad has on his truck, he loves them and they are still aggressive yet not loud at all.

I love these tires so far. They're very new on the market and I only have about 2000 miles on them so far. None the less I LOVE them.

Cooper STT are pretty nice on the pathfinder, but beware the top speed will drop from 190+ to only 160

relatively cheaper than others, and look very aggressive.

the side walls are rock solid, and u can deflate to 5 PSI and no worries of deformation or pop-outs when offroading.

for the noise, just turn up the radio and u should be fine.

Most aggressive?

Firestone Destination MT
BFG Mud Terrain
Hankook Dynapro MT

Basically, any mud tire....and you can always get really crazy and put Super Swampers on it...

I had Nitto Terra Grapplers. I did not like them. I now have Goodyear Wrangler ATs, and they hook up really well, I have 26,000 miles on them and they are starting to wear heavily.
