2008 affected also?

Postby Plumebuster » Sun Oct 10, 2010 4:55 pm

Just picked up a 2008 LE 4x2 with automatic transmission. Are these model years also subject to the transmission / coolant contamination issue? Unfortunately, I found out about this issue when searching for a Pathfinder forum. I hope I don't regret this purchase.

Any idea on the % of Pathfinders that have this issue?

Saw a comment that the supplier to Nissan believes the problem radiators were part of a batch shipment. Any idea on years affected?

Thanks in advance!

I just did the bypass today. :D Thankfully I saw this thread before it was too late. My ATF was still a nice clear red color.

Check in the mail!

Just to let everyone know that around the first of January I was notified that the radiator/trans fiascos was covered by an extended warranty OR if repairs had been made, submit the documentation. Back in September I had a local shop replace the radiator at my expense and today the mailman presented me with a letter from Nissan with a check enclosed for the full amount of the replacement. Great news!

Also, this past week the local dealer replaced the ECM relay that is under recall. Now I should have no fear of the engine stalling, right?

Now the next thing to worry about is the timing chain tensioner. I did add MotorKote friction reducer to an oil change at 67K. I hope that will hold me for a while longer…

Diagram I made to complete the radiator bypass.

It should take you all of 30 minutes to complete.

All you need to buy is 2 vacuum caps and two hose clamps to hold them on to complete.

Does anyone know, does this whole trans fluid coolant mixing mess occur with the V8 as well?

The V8 uses the same radiator.

Well, I have feeling that all the problems faced by early model year pathfinders will eventually find their way to the newer ones. Its just a matter of time and mileage. I bought a late build 2006 thinking I would be in the clear on all the major issues that have been uncovered with the R51, it turns out I was wrong. I just got done paying for a timing chain tensioner job and also had the fuel level sensor and leaking crank case fixed. I'm at 64k miles. I did the bypass when I first got the car to avoid any transmission issues. Nissan really put out some junk with this car, I am used to much better based on my maxima. Very disappointing.
