Ouch Front bumper replacement difficulty level?

Postby deezx5 » Tue Oct 05, 2010 1:07 pm

The wife had a run in with a pole and lost. I'm considering buying the bumper cover getting it painted then mounting myself. How difficult is this on an 09 to get proper factory look and fitment? Is it a one man job for somebody with intermediate skill level?

The carnage

if the bumper is not torn you could possibly knock out the dent with a rubber mallet and a block of wood.

you might want to talk to the body shop about the pros & cons of mounting it yourself
i had mine replaced at one time, and the labor charged for the R&R was only 1.2 hrs, which didn't seem excessive to me
the other consideration is that it's sometimes easier to get the finish/gloss matched with the rest of the car there
priced a front bumper cover yet?

I need to look more closely tonight but it lseems like the plastic is jacked although knocking it out wont hurt it any more lol

Yeah I doubt I will do it myself just trying to keep options open since the insurance just went down significantly 2 months ago. The bumper cover is $225 from Courtesy parts in Dallas so I figure $250-275 from my local dealer. If its more than that I might just go to Dallas and visit friends only a 3 hour drive.

you should be able to pull that out without much of a problem. I had something similiar happen with my back bumper. Used a heat gun to heat up the cover and got behind it and was able to gently push it out. Spent more time compounding/poilshing the area. Really cant notice unless your 1-2 feet away.

On closer inspection the front fender is slightly buckled too. Repair estimates from $1300-1700 so we are going the insurance route. If this were an older vehicle I would just smack out the dents to my best ability and live with it.
