Clicking noise

Postby trizz_05 » Thu May 14, 2009 5:11 pm

I have a 2005 Pathfinder 4x4 and recently at low speeds around 0-15 mph, there is a clicking or tapping noise coming from underneath. When I go faster, it goes away...anyone have any input on what this might be? I engaged the 4wd and than back to 2wd and it went away shortly. After a while it comes back.

Theres only one clicking /clunking sound i can think of,, its the ABS self test. As soon as you start the pathy and go above 15 mph, theres a click/clunking sound for like a second then goes away. That is normal operation,,but if the noise is there through out your journey you might want to take a closer look at it..The self test happens everytime you start up the engine..

I have a clicking sounds I need to get checked out as well. Also a 2005 4x4. Seems to be coming from either the front diff. or transfer case, can't really tell from the driver's seat with window down. Its about 3-4 ticks per tire rotation. Unlike the ABS test, this is a constant ticking. Sound like yours?

Also, I notice when I switch to 4WD, it seems to go away, but once back into 2WD, it's there again. I can't say that mine goes away as speed increases, but the ticking gets too fast (along with road and engine noise) to actually hear it.

That sounds driveshaft related. I had to replace my front drive line 3 times on my previous vehicle, and the symptoms were the same. At least I would look there for a problem first.
