AC Odor?

Postby 08OR » Mon Jun 22, 2009 3:27 pm

Since new (08, bought in April 08) i've noticed a strange scent inside the cabin when the AC is turned on (it seems to dissipate after a short while). It's not a bad smell necessarily, but I can't put my finger on it: some type of chemical odor or something. When new i thought this may be 'normal' and would disappear after a while, but my PF now has +/- 22k on it and no change. Any thoughts?

If the smell goes away, and there is no water on passenger floor, I would not worry about it, My Dodge truck does this at times, I believe it is just moisture on the heater core or somewhere. maybe a little mold. Humidity could play a part in this.

Here's what you do...start your vehicle and turn on your a/c.Get a can of Lysol or some other brand of anti bacterial spray and spray it down your a/c air intakes under the hood (top of firewall).Give it about a 10 sec. shot.If you do this about once a month you'll kill all that mold and bacteria that gives you that smell. This also works great in your central air at home.Spray into your air return while your a/c is running.
