Airbag on National Back-order

Postby GimmieSumMo72 » Fri Sep 11, 2009 12:45 pm

I have a flashing airbag light on the dash, I took it into Sansone Nissan and they said that the Passenger Front Airbag was on National Back-order with no release date.

Is this true?

The car is still under warranty until February 2010. Do I have any recourse?

Thanks!

it is possible for some parts to go on national back order with no release date. nissan should be able to upgrade it to a critcal back order for safety reasons. call nissan of north america and see what they say.

just tell nissan you placed an order with the dealer and you are scared to drive the vehicle with this issue. you don't want to put your family at risk because of a faulty airbag.

hope you get this resolved, did the dealer give you any kind of service papers? They where complete asses about replacing the timing chain under the extended warranty with myn. If you b and c enough they should take care of it for you. 30 grand for a truck the equipment should work.

i've got a case # with nissan usa... but the 2nd customer rep was a real biatch!

i'm surprised that a vehicle that is still in production would have parts on backorder!

it happens all the time unfortunately. it's just a production problem.

yes this does happen all the time. my dad works for jag and just because s car is still being made does not mean that they have 1 spare part for every part on a car. they that they would have one spare for every car they have ever made. that would be a waste of money. so when things like this happen they do go on back order. also remember that your airbag most likely goes into more then just your path finder it might go inside of one of nissans other models or sister models so that there are many different cars needing the same part but they just cant keep up with demand. now when it comes to u making a complaint with nissan usa that is a good thing to do but theirs really not to much they can to because the parts normally go through a third party. this third party might have other priories then the part you need and then that hurts you the consumer. its all one big crappy circle. just somethings you have to keep in mind and not take it out on the person you are talking to because they really have no control over the issue.

the thing is... the 1st rep i spoke with actually was pretty helpful... he went and looked at the inventory for the Airbag sensor and told me that the NY warehouse had 5 in stock.

when i called back and had the actual p/n the stupid 2nd rep told me if the dealer told me it was on back order, then its on back order. what kinda BS is that? that had me fuming!

My 2 cents:

1.) With the current economic situation, automotive suppliers have been scaling back and halting production.

2.) Nissan may be hording supplies to keep any still operating manufacturing lines supplied. They definitely don't want to have a bunch of 90+% complete vehicles clogging the factory because they released parts to the aftermarket and repair sectors.

If it's the air bag sensor that needs replacing, Nissan has recall on these, and may be the reason they are on back order.

i was told that since my pathfinder was built in the Tennesse plant and not the Mexico plant, it is not part of the recall campaign.

i got a call back from Nissan USA and they said that the part should be at my dealer on the 23rd.

we'll see...

they said that its not the air bag sensor but the airbag itself... i dunno...

can someone give a clarification what p/n 87650ZP40B really is?

No pathfinders are made in Mexico, either Smyrna, TN or Spain.
