Shudder with A/C cycles

Postby AZRoushStang » Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:51 am

Hey everyone,

I have some "interesting" behavior with my 05 Path, that I am trying to figure out it if is normal or not.

When my A/C (the compressor) cycles, I get a quick shudder that I can feel in the car. It seems to happen *most* of the time. The shudder does vary in intensity. Sometimes it is much more noticeable than others. I can duplicate the behavior, by manually turning the A/C on/off. I feel it most when sitting at a light in Drive. I don't feel it when I am actually driving though.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts? Does anyone else's do the same thing? Is it normal?

I have 74,500 miles and am only 500 miles from the end of my extended warranty. I'm a little leery of taking it in and having to spend $110 for them to tell me that it is normal. So I'm hoping to get some feedback first.

wild guess here, but try tightening the wheel but where the A/C belt goes on the front side of the engine. any small imperfection in the pulley can cause a noticeable vibration.

I get a little bit of this shudder, but it's not bad enough for me to want to do anything about it. I just assume that it's the engine responding to the sudden increase in load and it takes a second for the ECU to increase fuel to maintain idle speed.

Same happens on my 08 V6. When the clutch engages the compressor it's rather harsh. Not smooth like other vehicles I've owned.

I mainly notice a shudder when i very first turn the AC, afterwards it almost unnoticeable. if nothing looks lose under the hood and the AC is nice and cold I wouldn't worry much about it. I do remeber seeing TSB In regard to pulley alignment.

littlestevie has it. it's normal, you may also notice at idle with the a/c on, the idle will intermittently dip. The idler alignment was for belt noise on the early 4.0L's.
