Checking Transmission Fluid

Postby northern_toolman » Fri Jul 28, 2006 12:11 pm

I guess there is a special tool to check the transmission fluid of the new Pathfinders ... asked my local dealership and they said they don't / wouldn't sell the tool but it is part of their regular service ($120 Cdn). The amount they charge for service is highway robbery ... so I service at home but I'm not sure how to check the transmission fluid (there is no dipstick, just a bolt). The guy said the reason they set it up this way was so that you couldn't add non-Nissan fluid.

Any advice on either how to check the fluid without the tool, or where to purchase one of the tools.

Under the hood, on the left (passanger) side of the engine, there is a dip stick that is attached w/ a screw. Unscrew it and the dipstick pulls out.
