A/C leak on passenger floor 2007 SE OR - my experience

Postby markbiv » Fri Feb 26, 2010 11:02 am

Hi Everyone - First time to post but I would like to share my experince with the dealer for anyone who runs into this same issue.
I found a puddle of water under the passenger side carpet by accident while cleaning. Searched on here and found the TSB and went to the dealer to get it fixed. I had noticed a little different odor in the truck but since it isnt my daily driver I figured my wife had spilled something. If I had not pulled the carpet up I would have never found this since the top was dry but the foam padding below was completely saturated.

I brought it to the dealer with info in hand and they knew exactly what I was talking about. I specifically requested the carpet to be replace but the service manger refused and said the only way I would get it replaced was to contact a regional specialist to get it approved. I picked it up the same day and was told the repair was made and the carpet was completely dried. I checked it before I left and it was sopping wet. Exchanged a few words with the service manager and he said it would be dried tomorrow. Received a call the next day to pick it up and again checked it before I left and again still wet. I demanded the carpet be taken out and a new one ordered. He did comply but upon inspection of the floor board I found mold growing on the insulation pad that attached to the firewall. Of course this is not part of the TSB.

I agreed for him to cut out the molded section and order a new piece then replace the removed section. Of course, he comes to me and says the piece is unavailible. I did a little independant research and found the part is availible (#67900-ZP40C - Insulator - Dash lower - $202) per the parts department. I finally received a call from the regional specialist while writing this and updated her on the situation and she assured me it would be handled.

So I will have to wait to see the outcome of this. The TSB is for 07-08 built before Aug 7, 2007. Mine was built 01/07

Any one with this problem please pay attention to what the dealer does to fix this. I have a feeling many are being covered up with a little air freshener.

Thanks for the heads up, I never saw the TSB for this. Glad the stealer is going to take care of you...

What is the TSB number for this, if you recall? I have this issue and want to be able to go to the dealer with the info so they don't blow me off. I've found quoting the TSB number will usually let them know you know more than they wish. :-)

new guy here,

any more info on this? i bought a 2010 pf earlier this year, and while on vacation we noticed that water was dripping on the passenger side under the dash. weather was birght and sunny, so assumed it was condensation from the AC. i need to do 15k maint soon, and would like the dealer correct this (as well as the leak on the cargo hatch window).

thanks!

The tube that pokes through the firewall into the drain tube is too short.

I fixed this on mine a couple weeks ago. Its very easy (about a 2 on a scale of 1-10). Remove the RF wheel and fender well. Pull off the drain tube. Cut a short piece of 1/2 tubing to slip over the existing one. Put it all back together. Literally less than 30 min fix.

I just did mine as well. A very easy fix. At first, I wasn't convinced that such a small problem could have caused it, but I was wrong. Took me more like 45 minutes.

Same here in the UK... I unbolted the relay box and did the work from up top. I do have the Diesel version though.

Remove firewall pipe from the engine side... see the outlet from the aircon.. insert longer tight hose.. refit firewall drain. No problems since.

This will no doubt cause many pathfinders to die from rotten footwells in the future but hey its nice and dry now.

I wish i saw this thread sooner. Stealership just charged me $125 to install a longer drain hose. Going to contact nissan to see if the TSB applies to my path, and hopefully get some money back.

wouldn't hurt to ask, but don't be surprised if they decline
a TSB does not constitute an extended warranty or imply a campaign
a TSB is generally just a bulletin to point a service department in the right direction to solve a somewhat common problem

whats the worst they say? no lol... I have the extened warranty till 100k.Im just mad they charged me $100 to diagnose it and $25 for a piece of hose. They knew what it was im assuming because of the TSB.Thats usually the first thing they look for.

Image

Diesel relay box unbolted...

Image Engine side drain.. more of a cover

Image Garden hose.. the yellow size fits just great and this is as long as you need it..

Image Yellow hose fitted and just visible popping through the fire wall. The original hose is just too short.. The yellow hose extension means the air con condenser outlet water will now run in to the exit pipe rather than down the pourous firewall donut and soak your carpet.

Simply pop the larger original hose (second image) over the yellow hose (pick your own colour if you like :D ) Then carefully refit the relay box.

Others have done the job via the wheel arch removing the plastic arch liner.

Remember I'm in the UK so my steering wheel is on the CORRECT side.. if yours is on the opposite side then reverse the images
