Blacked out

Postby Budrbean » Wed Apr 28, 2010 3:06 pm

Anybody have any pics of a black pathfinder with a blacked out grill? I like the looks of the way everyone is painting theirs, but I cant seem to find any pics on a black one. Would like to do the wheels but Im afraid it will scratch right off perimeter of the rim when I get tires changed.

If you paint the rims you should have the tires off to do it correctly. and use Dupli Color paint. Prep the wheels correctly and use a clear coat after the paint dries to protect the paint. As for the grill I have not seen many with painted grills, but I have been thinking about doing mine. I had my side steps done in black and looks great.

Here is a thread for some guys here who have blacked out their wheels, grille and lift gate license molding.

If you paint chrome parts they tend to rock chip and peel very easy. This thread seems to have found a solution for this problem by using a spray on bedlinder material.

Powder coating the wheels would be the best solution but may cost more than you'd want to spend.

Some day I will do this to my Pathfinder as well. Gotta get to my suspension upgrades first!

I did a quick render of what it may look like. I think Ive got myself talked out of it. Looks like it will be a little much. It needs a chrome lip or something to set it off. And Im not a fan of aftermarket wheels (theft issue) so Ill just be content with what I have for now.

I borrowed your pic for some photoshop, hope you dont mind. Wanted to see what it would look like with stock black. I think Ive got myself talked into it, but I will use the wheel paint to get a deeper glossy black. May do this on my off days this week.

Another option to painting is powdercoating the wheels. It's more $$$ to do it, but the finish is much more durable. You will also ge a very glossy finish if desired. Here's some pics of my wheels I took last week while test fitting some tires. The wheels are American Racing Trench style.

Yeah it would be the proper way to go, but I just dont wanna spend the money and endure the hassle. A local company quoted me $450 for all 4 wheels with a 2-3 day turn around. It would just be a lot of hassle considering I dont have another vehicle to drive.

Hey richard can you post some more pics with those wheels on. I've been wanting to see what the black Trenchs look like on a pathfinder, just can't find any pics on the net. You ever thought about getting some black lug nuts?

Here's the pics I have so far, but they are not too good. I have not installed them yet because I'm still looking for tires. I went to a tire shop down the street and had them mount a worn out 265/70-16 and a 285-75-16 to see how they fit. I'll post more pics when I get some tires, soon hopefully.

Yes, the lugnuts look pretty bad. I'll get some that match the wheels.

Yeah, that does make a difference. Good luck and post some pics when you are done.
