Another IPDM

Postby Andrew32 » Mon May 10, 2010 2:25 pm

Well, looks like my good luck has finally run out. My Pathfinder stalled out on the highway today and almost got nailed by a dump truck. Had to get the police out there to stop traffic because i couldn't get it started again. Iv been having minor "sputters" and shut downs(but have always been able to restart) and the CEL going nuts. The issue was happening more and more.

So the aftermath...police contacted the DOT and reported a "safety concern" DOT has advised i go to the dealer to have them fix it. Nissan wants me to pay $100 diagnostic fee. Then they will review if my issue is truly a safety issue and MAY return my diagnostic fee...and MAY fix it free of charge even though im out of warrenty.

Anyways im in a dilemma, im 99.9% sure its the IPDM. I can pay $150 and fix it in 20 minutes. Or do i take a chance for a free fix with nissan?

Just fix it yourself and be done with it, that is what I did. I dont think it is worth the time to try to get it done for free. Unless you just feel like following thru to test Nissan on the safety issue.

Nissan told me the same thing on the sending unit. I am just going to fix it myself.

little info on stealerships:

had a problem last week, see here: http://www.thenissanpath.com/viewtopic.php?t=3344

Nissan quoted me 3,075 AED or approx. $830 to fix.
when i requested the work log, this is what i got:

front disc fix
rear disc fix
alignment
injector cleaning
engine flush
engine treatment
emission treatment
oil conditioner

when i asked bout the battery, they said its under warranty and they replaced free... all these others were "optional" fixes.

thought i'd post a update!

Went to the dealer monday to get the diagnostic that corporate wanted. The result was no code, but the mechanic was able to recreate the cutoff and recommended IPDM like we all already knew. I called Nissan right away and was told a regional master mechanic would look at it Tuesday

Tuesday - i get a call saying the regional director would be calling me wednesday.

Wednesday - regional director calls me to tell me she is looking into the case and will call me friday

Friday - she calls again to tell me she is still looking at the case and would give me decision by Monday.

Monday - never get a call, left 2 messages on regional directors voice mail requesting a call Tuesday

Tuesday - waited but no call. left a message for a call back

WEdnesday (today) - Called in the morning but no answer again so i left a message. Waited till 3:30 (she leaves at 4:30) before i called the consumer affairs line and spoke with a different representative. He wasn't sure why i was not given a call and told me i was scheduled for a call monday. He told me i was also scheduled for a call today and that he would talk to her and guaranteed a call back by 4:30 today. Its 5:15 and nothing. Left another message on her machine requesting a call back.

I cant stop feeling like Nissan is strong arming me, hoping i would just go away...i assure you i will not just go away.

Now i know there are some out there wondering why im going through this trouble when i can fix it quick... and the answer is its become personal. The Pathy is not my daily driver, i have a F250 that i enjoy so i have all the time in the world and i plan to wait it out. Will update as things keep going.

final update.

Postby Andrew32 » Tue May 25, 2010 2:47 pm

LEaving off from my previous update**

Thursday, called 3 times leaving 2 messages. Finally called the regular consumer line and they sent an internal message requesting my regional specialist to call me. Later in the afternoon someone from consumer affair called me and told me that kristy (my regional specialist) wpuld be calling me no later than 3:00 on Friday.

Friday - nothing. called and left a message.

Weekend -

Monday - i get my call from kristy at 4:25 pm. I was in a meeting and could not answer so i let it go to voicemail. The message "this is bla bla bla with nissan...bl bla ill be here till 4:30 today. Call me back before then"

REALLY?! call me at 4:25 asking me to call back by 4:30? i left a very upset message

Tuesday (today) - left a message in the morning for a call back. Later Her supervisor called me and told me that the vehicle was not under warranty (no crap) so nissan has no responsibility of the problem or any injuries that could occur. I explained to her the whole situation and that there was already a police report of the incident and she told me that it doesn't matter and that nissan stands behind her decision. i must have struck a nerve when i asked her if nissan was goign to be the next toyota (i know i know..harsh) and she said that we had nothing more to discuss and the decision was final. She is sending me a letter stating this in 4 weeks.....

all in all im not too upset that nissan isnt fixing it. it was the treatment i got from their consumer affairs specialist and the 19 days it took them to get an answer. O well, We will be selling the car within the year and picking up a used excursion.....pathfinder was fun while she lasted.

thanks for listening to my rant. Just a note, this is my experience and my opinion. Take it how you wish.
