1991 pathfinder backfire.

I bought a 91' pathfinder about a year ago, the problem has been there but has worsened over time, I took it to the shop but the guy couldn't find anything wrong with it. The truck runs OK till it heats up then runs like crap. If you lay into the throttle it spits and sputters, It does it when just cruising too. I am lost as to what to do and funds are limited, has anyone had a problem like this?
