Home made anti-water ingestion suggestions?

Hey guys, the previous owner smashed the induction box resonator in the front fenderwell, allowing my R50 to ingest a bunch of water when I entered an 18" deep river, hydrolocking my motor (not fun wrenching in the middle of a river BTW) anyways, I'm looking for ideas to make this never happen again, without spending $480 on a snorkel kit.

I currently have a pipe leading directly from induction tube in the fenderwell to above the wheel well liner, so minimal water will get thrown into it.

Fire off suggestions guys!
