Getting warm during ilde...

Postby dwoodard170 » Mon Aug 23, 2010 3:19 pm

Hey guys.

My 05 PF LE V6 that we just purchased about 1500 miles ago got close to overheating the other day while idling in a parking lot. The AC turned off and the temp gauge was near the top of the "normal" range. As soon as I drove a few feet (before I was out of the parking lot) it cooled right down and the ac came back on.

It has about 77k miles on it. Any ideas what is wrong? I am no mechanic so I won't amuse you with my possibly random ideas! Thanks for the help.

Danny

here are a few random possibilities:
at idle, since there is no air flow through the radiator except for that provided by the cooling fan, it may be that the fan was not working.
if it was a very hot day with a long period of idling with the AC on, it may have been a normal response for the conditions.
if there is a pocket of trapped air in your cooling system, there may not have been enough flow of coolant through the system at the low RPMs.

Check the coolant level. If its low, could cause this.

Also, if its low, check for leaks!

if the coolant level is fine. your clutch fan could be the problem.

Mine did the same after having a coolant flush done. I "burped" the cooling sytem and it has been fine since then. Maybe there was an air bubble in the system?

Thanks for the ideas guys. I am not familiar with a clutch fan. What is that?

Thanks eieio! One would think that by now I would know not to ask before trying a quick google search! I do appreciate the link and now I know what a clutch fan is.
