She's all mine!!

Postby rlh2005 » Tue Oct 05, 2010 4:07 pm

At the risk of jinxing myself, my Pathfinder is finally all mine. I purchased her in August 2006 with a 5-yr loan. I paid the loan off early yesterday. It's been nearly 13 years since I've truly and completely owned my vehicle.

With 11 monthly payments left, I didn't save much interest but it feels great to be done and have extra money to devote to other debt. The misses and I are working our Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University debt snowball. The only debts left are her car and the mortgages on our two homes (one is an income property). The new goal is to have her car paid for by July while concurrently paying down mortgage debt and building an emergency fund.

Yes congrats. Wish more people would push to live within their means and eliminate debt. We've been fortuneate enough to be debt free and I intend to stay that way forever. Sometimes that means buying a slightly used Pathfinder vs a new whatever....but when you have cash in your pocket it's amazing how painful $35k looks vs $25k. Payments make it look more reasonable.

I told my wife the next car will be paid for cash, or financed at 0% for 36 months. Fortunately, both our vehicles are fairly new. The pathy will be paid off in 2 yrs, and the 08 civic is on a cheap 5yr lease til 2012 at which point we owe $8800, at which point it should still be worth about 9-10k. (Cars are expensive here in Canada).

2 car payments is ludicrous and I don't recommend to anybody! $750 a month makes my car payments higher than the mortgage on my house!

Ridiculous.

I think I'd kill to have a $750 mortgage payment. Between the two houses, my mortgage payments are just over $3000. Granted our old house's payment is more than covered by the rent we collect on it.

Congrats man, we still have 3 years on the Pathfinder but the car has been paid off for years. The next month it was like getting a raise. Even though an older vehicle requires more maintenance an extra $50-100 a month averaged out over a year is much better than a car note.

Congrats! I love the fact that I was fortunate enough to be able to pay off both my 08 Pathy and the wife's 09 Altima. It really does make a difference! In January I should have enough money saved up for a tire/rim combo and some sort of lift...
