Test drove the Nissan Leaf yesterday...

Postby RacerZX » Mon Nov 01, 2010 8:50 am

My expectations going in were near zero honestly, however we were very delightfully surprised. In spite of it's small size the interior was spacious enough for 4 easily, adequate trunk space, very peppy acceleration from the high-torque motor and excellent 7 second 0-60 times, and flat cornering with minimal body roll from the very low CG. Amazing, it's not just the first consumer priced EV, it's a fun chuckable 4-door hot-hatch. Watch some HD video of our ride here:

Sure. It's big enough to take the kids to school, has the range to do my daily driving tasks, and it's reasonably fun to drive. I'd want a second car in the family for weekend trips and whatever, but as a second daily commuter car it's downright perfect.

the only fear i have for hybrid/electric cars is that when the batteries die. if you are out of the warranty period you can expect to spend around $5,000.00 for a new one.

The battery warranty is 8y/100K miles. Eight years of no oil changes, no belts, no coolant flushes, almost nothing in maintenance will probably pay for your new battery right there, let alone the fuel cost savings. Plus batteries in 8 years will probably be far cheaper than today....

Our original plan was to offer a IC vehicle twice a year as part of purchase package for road trips, as well as a lifetime "lease" of the batteries, so that should anything go wrong, it would be our problem...

Warranty

The warranty on our hybrid is 15 years, 150k miles on all hybrid components except the battery. The battery is 10 years, 150k miles. All hybrids have long warranties on the 'special' components. Hybrids sold in states which use California emissions (like Massachusetts), have the warranties listed above. Otherwise I think it is 8 years, 100k miles.

I also hear the release is still limited in US and not at all until next year in Canada.......weird, not what I initially heard was going to happen at all

This car has a Hybrid System. You really have a nice plan to do some test drive with it. I have heard that the update of this car is really terrific. I am looking forward to see this in person.
