1st oil change ?

Postby V8Pathy » Wed Nov 14, 2007 12:29 pm

alright the V8 Pathfinder has now 3500 miles. Should I wait a little longer for the 1st oil change ? dealership told me to bring it in at 5,000. But I might do my own oil change.

Anyone has the specs/info for the V8 PF oil change ? ( filter ref, how many QTs of oil and which grade ?)

thanks...

I'm surprised they said to wait that long. Does it say 5k in the owners manual? The six needs to be changed every 3750. How they came up with that number I have no idea.

I guess because they offer it for free since I bought the car at their dealership... :?

anyways, I found the info: for the V8: 6 1/2QT of 5W-30 + new oil filter.

I'll get the oil at Costco :) Mobil 1 should be fine.
I'll just get the correct Nissan oil filter at my local dealership.

Don't forget the crush washer for the drain plug. I ordered a 10 pack of filters and washers from http://www.courtesyparts.com/ that I have in the garage. I just pick up the oil when it's on sale at pep boys. You take an extra quart more than the six. Do you have the skid plate under the engine? It makes removing the filter a challenge on the six. Maybe the v8 is in a better place.

no skid plates yet ( but I'm planning on getting the shrockworks ones later on)

Yeah I use the real nissan filters. I guess you have different name on the other nissan forum, since you have the same question about what the part number is. Give your dealer a call and they should be able to give you the part number then order it online or ask if they will match the price. Who knows, you might get lucky.

I do it every 1/3rd of 10K miles. I know manufacturers often suggest longer intervals, but the conspiracy theorist side of me always worries that the manufacturer designs their maintainance intervals to make the hardware last the life of the warranty, not actually to reduce long term wear. Plus I drive harder than the average bear too

Personally I stuck with dino oil until 10K miles and then switched to synthetic Mobil 1 5/30. YMMV.

I'm surprised they use the same filter, since it's so small to begin with. At least now you can buy the 10 pack form courtesy parts now. Let us know if you run into any snags trying to get to the filter and that sort of stuff. Good luck.

yeah I was surprised to find out that ..they have different numbers but they are the same..the oil filter access does not look great though on the V8 PF.I'll probably do my oil change on turkey day :)
