New Communication on Radiator from Nissan

Postby WheatBread » Tue Oct 19, 2010 10:23 am

Just read this on another forum from a member who is a service manager at a Nissan stealership in Canada:

Quote

This announcement is to inform you that Nissan has decided, for customer satisfaction purposes, to extend the warranty for the Radiator Assembly on all 2005-10 Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions.
The New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage on applied vehicles for the Radiator Assembly will be extended from its original duration of 3 years/60,000 kilometres to 8 years/130,000 kilometres (whichever occurs first). This warranty extension applies only to the Radiator Assembly (and its component parts), including damage, repairs, replacement, and related towing resulting from this issue. Customers who may have previously paid for a repair that would have been covered by this extended warranty will be eligible for reimbursement. Coverage of other vehicle components will remain unchanged, and all other terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of Nissan’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty continue to apply.
Additional details regarding this warranty extension and reimbursement eligibility and procedures will be provided to you no later than October 29, 2010.

Terrific news! I'm assuming this is for the US as well?

Didn't kill my transmission, but I did recently donate over $2K to Nissan due to a failed radiator.

Would the extended coverage to the radiator cover the transmission replacement if the radiator fails?

It sounds to me that if you are outside of the powertrain warranty, but still within the new extended rad warranty it will cover the cost of the rad but not the tranny.

Boy, I hope its the start of something. I don't see how they could warrant the radiator, but not the damage caused by it. Its like if I light my stove on fire cooking, the insurance covers the kitchen repairs, not the dining room where the fire spread to.

Any parts associated with the warranted part that are damaged are covered also, My wife's 2002 Altima had the catalytic converter go at 76,000 miles and the cat had been extended to 8 years warranty. When the cat came apart the motor started using 1qt. of oil every oil change. They replaced the cat and the whole motor, and she has no extended warranty (besides the defective cat). And they also informed me that the replacement cat is covered for ANOTHER 80,000 miles

Is the radiator issue DEFINITELY only applicable to cars with automatic transmission?

I have a manual gearbox R51 2.4SVE in the UK and was under the impression that they were also susceptible to this problem.

Anyone know?

I've personally never seen a manual tranny with a cooler. Checking the bottom of your radiator for the absense of small lines going into the bottom tank would be a good double check, though.

Hi. Went out and lay in the snow to do this check today. Pleased to confirm there are no lines leading from bottom of the radiator, so my mind's now at rest.

Didn't realise until today that it was so easy to check for this, or wouldn't have wasted everyone's time with the question.

Cheers
