Oil Pressure gauge reading change

Postby disallow » Sun Feb 13, 2011 10:26 pm

Hey All,

Noticed over the last week or so a difference in the reading on my oil pressure gauge. Usually it sits at just over 1/2 when at cruising speed, and never goes below the minimum line when at idle. It seems to have shifted down somewhat. I thought it might be an indication of a low oil level, but I have no apparent leaks, and just changed my oil today, so I know the level is good. The oil change (Synthetic as always) did not seem to have an effect on the reading either.

Anyone else see this? I've seen posts where it seems the sender drops out entirely, but not a change in readings...

I was just about to post a similar question. My oil pressure drops a bit when I'm at idle, but it's still within the normal range. I'm assuming this is 100% normal but it's worth asking about.

Not sure if you guys can see this, but here's a link to a pic.

Today while parked in an incline going into a parkade, my oil light actually came on. I checked my oil and the level is great.

Of the sender is going bad, would it cause the oil light to come on?
