What does the wired plug do on the front of the front brake

What does the wired plug do on the front of the front brake

On the back side of the brake rotors is a light gauge wire plug in that looks like it has a aluminum crimped base ring holding it on... when I was changing CV joint I noticed the wires were frayed to this plug and am curious, its that one of the ABS sensors? or is that something to do with idiot lights on the dash?

It sounds like an ABS wire to me.
