interior LED kit?

Postby Mac » Thu May 05, 2011 7:04 pm

Has anyone installed an interior LED kit on the existing dome light circuit? I would like to add LEDs that go on and off with the dome lights.
I have an 08 SE V6 4x4 and it has no lights under the dash that light up the floor. I want to add LED light bars under the dash (driver and pass sides) and on the back of each seat to light up the 2nd row floor.
All my domes are LEDs so I am not worried about the fuse or draw.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Do you have any kits that you are thinking about? I've never done this, but have seen it done in other cars and it does look nice, as long as it's done right.

I bought a 4 bar kit (12-15 leds per bar) with a control box from SuperBrightLEDs.com. The kit is great quality and works (I hooked it up to a 9v to test it out). It is very bright and exactly what I want, I just need to know what wire to splice into.

Ok. Are you looking for this to turn on just when the doors are open, turn on when you turn on the interrior light, or turn on differently?

If you want them to turn on when the doors open, then your best bet would be to use the wire for the door jamb switch.

If you want them to turn on with interior lights, your best bet is to use the interior light either in the front or middle row.

If you want them to be able to turn on/off whenever you want, I'd wire a switch and run the wire from the power outlet. the power outlet should have power all the time. The cig outlet should have power only when the key is turned on.

Hope that's what you might be looking for.

I would like them to operate the same as the dome lights. I will try to splice it to the dome light and then run another power line to the 12v plug with a switch so I can turn them on at will. Thanks!

Also, btw, my previous post was incorrect, I got the LED kit from LEDGlow and I got the 30 LED array for the cargo dome from SuperbrightLEDs.com (if you get it make sure you get the array and the correct base to plug it into). It is the brightest I could find for the cargo area.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check into it. You should take alot of pictures and do a write up for this as you in instal these lights. At least some final pictures.
