Wheel adaptors

Postby Gray » Sat Mar 15, 2008 6:04 pm

I noticed from this German Michaelis PF and 4x4 tuning website that they install 6x114.3 mm to 6x139.7 mm wheel adapters, probably to use other Nissan or other more available wheels sizes. I suppose adapters are about the same as wheel spacers but have any used these or any thoughts as to their safety or detriment to PF wheel bearings or other components. Would steel be better than T6 aluminum. Which US sources for these would be of superior quality? Thanks.

Just looking around the net I saw this adapter for 05+ PF's, Frontiers, etc from Spidertrax, who have it listed as 'looking for testers', but the price is the same as their adapters for other vehicles;

Why would one want to do this?

I couldn't see why why anyone would pay close to $1000 US for a set of 4 aluminium lug adapter\spacers. As NAKA said previously having a set of rims built to task is the safest (right) way to do it.
Any word as to what those $1000 spacers weigh?
Here is a nice little tool if you are going that route:

Hi Fofiddy, your numbers are somewhat off...I'm not sure how good they are but the SpiderTrax T6 adapters above are $99 for a set of 2, $200 for the four corners.

Actually my numbers are dead nuts on, I was converting the 593 EUR that the German site you posted was listing their 6x4.5-6x5.5 adapter.
I'm a Test Pilot for Klim they give me 40% just to tell them what I think of their gear, I'm not "testing" anything for full retail especially a product that if it fails could result in the loss of a wheel and possibly a catastrophic event.

There are adapters available state side that go for 57 each to get the 6x139.7 bolt pattern. Use google, search for wheel adapters.

Only issue I see with this is that most of the 6x5.5 wheels already have a low offset, the adapter will add another inch to that offset, which would get you a wheel that sticks out a fair amount. Might not matter for you offroad guys, but i want a wheel that will sit under the edge othe fender lip.
